Meet Moira
Moira Peña, BScOT, MOT, OT Reg. (Ont.), is an occupational therapist with over 20 years of experience and an internationally recognized speaker dedicated to supporting individuals who experience sensory processing differences.
Passionate about promoting neurodiversity-affirming practices and the effective use of evidence-based sensory-based interventions (SBIs), Moira equips occupational therapists (OTs), occupational therapy assistants (OTAs) and other allied health and education professionals with knowledge and skills to better support autistic and other neurodivergent individuals and their families.
Moira is the founder of Moira Peña Sensory Workshops, offering in-person and online trainings for healthcare professionals. She also works at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, with children and youth on the autism spectrum.
As a key member of the Expert Hub Team member for both the ECHO Ontario Autism Program and the ECHO Autismo Neurodiversidad Argentina, Moira helps develop the expertise of paediatricians, allied health professionals, and educators in identifying and addressing the needs of autistic children an youth.
Moira holds advanced certifications credentials from the STAR (Sensory Therapies and Research) Institute for Sensory Processing and is a certified Solution-Focused Healthcare Facilitator & Coach (C-SFHCF). Her work is published in The Manual of Pediatric Balance Disorders, The Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders. and in Coaching for Person-Centred Healthcare.
She is the creator & host of Holland Bloorview’s Autism Summit, a knowledge hub featuring:
_Two highly attended summits (8000+ participants to date!)
-A virtual group coaching program for occupational therapists (117 OTs trained in neurodiversity-affirming care)
_An open access autism resource toolkit (over 31K views!) as well as the evidence-based Autism Occupational Therapy Guiding Principles for Occupational Therapists which was co-created with OTs, SLPs, parents of autistic children and. youth and autistic adults.
Moira is also an Adjunct Lecturer in the Department of Occupational Science & Occupational Therapy at the University of Toronto and an Authorized Provider of Professional Development by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA).
